Virtualization and Cloud Security

Catbird was one of the earliest innovators in the virtualization and cloud security market, identifying the new risks and challenges in protecting the virtualized data center. In 2007 Catbird announced the first VMware-certified Virtual Security Appliance offering comprehensive virtual network security. The first Catbird appliance was deployed at banks to protect their critical assets as they moved to virtual architecture and proved out the concept of a non-invasive appliance delivering continuous protection to mission-critical production deployments.

At VMworld 2007, Catbird launched its groundbreaking vSecurity® product, followed in early 2008 by its VMShield® and HypervisorShield®. Catbird also announced founding membership in the VMsafe program.

At VMworld 2008, Catbird announced the next generation of vSecurity, with support for TrustZones®, the first product delivering location-independent network-based policy enforcement. TrustZones monitors and enforces security in virtualized data centers even across mobility events such as VMotion and brings a policy lens to logical groupings of virtualized assets.

At VMworld 2009 Catbird announced vCompliance, enabling the delivery of comprehensive compliance monitoring and enforcement for virtualized and cloud environments.

Catbird’s earliest incarnation was as a vertical MSSP primarily focused on mid-sized companies in the financial industry. Catbird quickly recognized the need to expand its security offering to include internal network security utilizing the same patent-pending automated management system. The company successfully built an installed base of hundreds of mid-sized companies that today rely on Catbird's web and internal network security and who are gradually virtualizing, including Catbird security in their updated data centers.

Catbird’s innovative technology includes advanced protection for mission-critical websites, such as those used for e-commerce. Catbird’s Pharming Shield is currently one of the web’s most popular tools for continuous, automated protection for websites against pharming attacks, including monitoring for website defacement, DNS hijacking and SSL certificate integrity.

Catbird was established in 2000 by CenterGate Research, a group founded by legendary Internet infrastructure pioneers, including Ron Lachman. Catbird is the latest of Mr. Lachman's many successful ventures.
