A University for Virtualization Security

Catbird’s Certified Virtual Security Professional (CVSP) Program

The Certified Virtual Security Professional Program is the industry’s first professional training and certification program for virtualization security and compliance.

Virtualization infrastructure, and its corresponding virtual network security, continue to evolve. This presents a challenge to the IT department, as typically:

  • Virtualization experts–responding to concerns from the CSO–are tasked with suddenly deploying sophisticated security mechanisms beyond their domain expertise, or
  • Security experts must recommend policy and protection for a new architecture with which they are unfamiliar.

CVSP Curriculum

The CVSP curriculum encompasses emerging industry standards and guidelines, including requirements established by government agencies and virtualization platform vendors, as well as seasoned real world experience from Catbird consultants in the field.

The 1-day program includes one full day of coursework, supplemented by lab work and Q&A time. Completion of the one-day course gives trainees introductory, actionable information. Students graduate with an advanced understanding of the myriad of security and compliance issues surrounding virtualization security with hands-on training on avoidance and mitigation.

Curriculum Specifics

The CVSP program covers advanced security skills and technologies required to extend existing network security polices into the virtual infrastructure. Course topics include:

  • Migration of existing physical security and compliance policies and procedures to virtual infrastructure
  • Best-practices virtual network configuration and management
  • Virtual security implementation architecture
  • Compliance solutions to ensure separation of duties, secondary controls and change controls within VMware™ and Citrix™ XenServer™
  • Best-practices and methodologies for maintaining visibility and control of virtual machines
  • Intrusion Detection and Prevention in a virtual network
  • Network Access Control in a virtual network
  • Network segmentation and trusted zones on a virtual network

Students are hosted in a state-of-the-art lab to give extensive hands-on training, allowing them to quickly gain confidence and capability with the architecture and applications.

CVSP Exams

The prerequisite for a CVSP certification is at least 3 years of direct experience building and managing network security within a corporate environment. Alternatively, in-depth knowledge of virtual infrastructure with a goal of understanding the security implications would also qualify. Catbird recommends that each CVSP candidate have achieved VCP certification as a foundation for this course. Completion of VCP training or equivelant is sufficient..

Certification

At the end of their training, candidates must pass a multiple choice exam to obtain certification. Once the CVSP exam has been satisfactorily completed, the candidate will receive a certification packet, including the CVSP certificate. CVSP graduates will be fully-trained in guiding their customers’ or their own virtualization security strategies.

The CVSP course is delivered by authorized training centers. Please contact for the training center nearest you.

The course is an exciting and challenging opportunity to discover, understand and control various aspects of virtual security. It is must-have training for IT staff in the burgeoning field of virtualization security who wish to remain on the cutting edge of their security career.
